Ophiopogon Japonicus Mini – Mini Mondo Grass
Ophiopogon japonicus mini also known as Mini Mondo Grass, is a genus of Ophiopogon local to Japan. It is an evergreen, clumping small grass like ground cover. Its leaves are linear, 5 to 10 centimeters long, the blossoms are white to light lilac, borne within a short raceme over a five centimeter stem. Its fruits are blue berry and five millimeter in diameter and its roots are big stolens with tuberous root.
Height: 5 to 10 cm high
Uses: Extensively used as an ornamental plant offering a wonderful ground cover, and even a lawn substitute.
Planting tips: This plant can flourish in full sun or shade and it also perform well in poor soil. It multiplies very quickly to create a dense and dark green border. It is also frost resistant.
Soil type: It can perform well even in poor soil condition.
Pruning: Not needed, but can in fact be mowed like a lawn if needed.
Watering: It can tolerate excess watering
Feeding: It is also tolerate excess fertilising
Pests and problem: Nothing serious. Aphids can be a problem in these plants otherwise no serious disease found.
